It's not often that I go somewhere that's not open Saturdays but open Sundays instead. 7am-1pm no less. But today I did and actually got up early to head over to North Hollywood with my husband to Saderma Leather and Shoe Supplies.
I wasn't quite sure what to expect but I certainly didn't expect it to be as busy as it was. We had to circle the block 2x before we could get a slot in the parking lot. Once inside it feels like someone's private storage room. Aisles take twists and turns and at times you feel like you've wandered off in some private employees area. There weren't many prices on anything but I felt the prices I paid were about right.
I got some Bontex Leatherboard 5 iron for $17 and a 1lb of Star Brand Hand Lasting Tacks which were the two things I actually needed but there was plenty more stuff that I wanted including some women's shoe lasts. I should have asked for prices on the later. I might go back next week.
Now they had several different thicknesses of Bontex leather board and they also have celastic but I think I saw the thermoplastic toe puff/counter stuff as well. I had emailed earlier to see if they had texon or bontex and they said they had both but I only saw the bontex. Either way I'm happy it seemed to be impossible to find online.
The nails were a problem to pick out because I assumed they would have one or two kinds not a whole wall full. I hope I picked out correctly.
More shoemaking stuff tomorrow.
