The other blog where I was labeled a big fat meanie I'm not even going to link to. I've never been a big fan of saying I've done this blah blah blah blah and that makes me an expert. I hate that because it doesn't mean that your information is any more valuable. Information is valuable when it is useful and true.
But here's my lifestory anyways. Its probably on the internet anyways so I might as well make sure it's true.
I was born in New Zealand where I studied law and computer science. I met my husband online and moved to Los Angeles where I have lived for the last 13 years. I studied fashion both at community college and FIDM. Honestly I actually had some of the same teachers at both so it really comes down to available resources. At the same time I was an avid yet bad ballroom dancer who was tired of paying $150 for a pair of shoes. I started out by distributing a line of shoes that were imported from China from the company I was distributing for. I started out in eBay and soon moved on to my own site. I was able to do this fulltime which is every business owners dream. Eventually I craved a better markup and more control over my product. I researched and eventually had my own "line" manufactured in China myself.
But life isn't always so kind. When the economy started to tank so did my sales and my husband lost his job of 18 years and though he found one 3 weeks later I couldn't in good conscience continue to live my dream/gamble. So I studied my other fashion and have worked as a nurse since.
My latest adventure is going down the same road but in a different way. I am actually learning to make shoes by hand versus just sending a sketch to a foreign factory. For fun.
EDITED TO ADD: I forgot one of funest vocations I've had. Knitting instructor. Very low key unstressful job and teaching people a skill that they can use to create and relax is a gift in and of itself.
